Everyone is suited for something in the way of a career, but we don’t always know what it is that we are supposed to do or what we would enjoy for a lifelong career. Some people are creative, and some are very logical. Some people love to work long, set hours and some want something that is very flexible. There are nurse jobs no matter where you live. You have a hospital or numerous doctors offices within an easy drive. These are all places that need nurses. There are also home nursing programs where nurses go to someone’s home, physical therapy locations, and retirement homes that also need skilled nurses. These nurse jobs are varied, busy, and pay well in most areas. There is never going to be a time when nursing jobs are not available somewhere near you. People are always sick and in need of assistance no matter what is going on with the economy.
Nurse jobs mean job security. You can always find something, and if you find yourself in a line of nursing work that you do not like, it will be easy enough to find a job that goes in a different direction. Nurses are on the front lines of healthcare, and often know more about the patients that the doctors do, especially in a hospital environment. If you love working with people, and you feel that helping people feel better in what can be the worst moments of their lives is for you, nurse jobs are right up your alley.
Before you can start doing nurse jobs, you have to go to school. You can become a licensed practical nurse (or LPN) in just one year. You can become a registered nurse (or RN) in three years at most schools. The RN is going to make more money than the LPN, but both types of nurses are in demand and make decent money no matter where they work. If you want to go even further, you can become a nurse practitioner, which requires even more schooling. NP often see patients in the same capacity as a doctor, though they must be working under a doctor. Some people use nurse practitioners for much of their healthcare needs.
You should understand that nurse jobs are not for everyone. Some people want to do this but simply do not have the constitution for the job. Some people are too sensitive and too caring, and watching people suffer and even die is just too much for them. Some people find that they are just too squeamish for this line of work. If you are not sure, try to work as a nurse’s aid or care partner first. After a few months on the job you should have a clear idea if nurse jobs are for you or not. Don’t feel bad if you change your mind, nursing is certainly not for everyone.
